balance transfer question

in Credit cards
Hello, I have been doing some reading on this useful site but need a little help as well.
I have £1500 on a NatWest card with an interest rate of 28% appx I think, which I've had for far too long and the interest is too much.
What I'm planning to do is to apply for a Sainsbury's credit card (I just registered my new nectar card today which I gather I need beforehand) and do a balance transfer. I plan to pay off at least £50 monthly but expect to pay off a few larger lumpsums later this year.
I notice the 6.9% rate is representative which is not available to all applicants. Can you tell me how long it takes generally to be advised what the rate Sasinsbury's will offer me? I won't be using the card except for this balance transaction thing.
This 1500 is my only sum owing. I am a homeowner with very small mortgage. I have debit cards all kept up to date etc. Pay bills on time etc. Healthy bank balance with no issues. I've never had bad credit that I know of. My current income is approx £1300 monthly.
Is what I'm planning the best thing to do?
Appreciate comments and any other suggestions.

When do you expect to be able to pay off the £1500? or how much will your larger lump sums add up to?
Have you worked out the difference in overall fees of using the low rate card with no balance transfer fee with a card that has a 0% introductory offer?
Sometimes an applicant is accepted immediately and will find out the APR at that point, other times it can take a week or so to find out if you've been accepted and at what rate.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for that post Tixy. To be honest I didn't do any comparative sums with the 0% introductory offer options. It just struck me that I've been paying this daft NatWest interest for too long and in my frustration looked at a number of offers and I jumped at the Sainsburys option as it seemed reasonable and most flexible.
I plan to pay off the 1500 in a year, but just in case that doesn't work out I want to have the option of the 50 per month which is my baseline for montly payments.
Thanks for the info on hearing back from them timeframe.
I was thinking of applying online, is this a good and safe option?
Thanks sorry for so many simple questions.0
