Double glazing misted inside

Hi
I have searched but couldn't find a match so apologies if this has already been covered.
One side of the old double glazing in our bedroom has blown (moisture inside the 2 panes of glass). Is it economical to have someone repair it (have seen the service advertised) or should we simply replace the whole unit when we can afford to? Will it be causing a great deal of heat loss as it is?
Thanks for any advice

It happened to me recently, luckily the window was still under guarantee so I didn't pay anything. It was to do with the seal being broken and letting water in.
They replaced the glass panel and seal, didn't touch the frame. 10 minute job.0 -
Itws a very straightforward job for a glazier to replace the unit. They will measure it, make one up in their workshop then bring it out to install it. Expect to pay from about £60. Call them with some rough meausurements for an estimate.
Not at all convinced about the repair service. there is a lot of 'anti' on this forum about it.
In terms of heat loss, given the overall external envelope of a typical hoiuse, one windoe not being double glazed (as effectively yours is know) will have a negligible effect on heat loss.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
speak to the experts and they will tell you, any repair is futile. and a waste of money.
replace the whole unit. they are not that expensive.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks all, sounds like a new unit is needed. Better get to work with quotes.0

I doubt whether a misted unit is going to cause much heat loss. The unit still has the basic requirement for insulation, and that is a volume of still air. The fact that the unit is misted just means that some small amount of air has escaped. The bulk of the air in the unit is still not moving so the insulation value is not greatly affected. Actually, you might well find that a repair could cost nearly as much as to get the unit replaced.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Replace the whole unit with K glass for best energy performance. Simple and speedy job. All together now, "Always look on the bright side of life..." :whistle:0
