Things to do in/near Berwick Upon Tweed without a car

We're looking to book a week at Havn, Berwick Upon Tweed as its only a straight train ride for us from Glasgow so is less hassle as we will have a pushchair, 4 young kids and suitcases. We're just worried that especially if the weather is not so good the kids will get bored of Haven.
Does anyone know of anything to do in or around Berwick-Upon-Tweed but that can be reached fairly easily by public transport? The kids like a whole range of stuff so are quite easily pleased so any ideas appreciated.

Get the bus to Paxton House. Get the train to Alnmouth, the Metro shopping centre and Edinburgh, walk the fortified walls, visit the wealth of museums, get connected at the library, visit Spittal beach, walk the cliffs along to Cocklawburn beach - one of the best anywhere. Haven has 2 beaches right by it. You are by the local golf course. There are buses to other local towns such as Duns. It really depends on time of year as there are a number of houses and castles you can visit such as Bamburgh and Alnwick using for instance the coastal bus service. Walk along the river Tweed and enjoy the peace and quiet.Life is like a box of chocolates - drop it and the soft centres splash everywhere0

probably edinburgh, thats about it. we stayed at haggerston castle in oct and we didnt really like it much. there isnt much around berwick upon tweed at all. mainly castles and pretty much everything except edingburgh you would need a car for. We had 2 young children with us and found that we stayed on the park most of the week except for 1 trip in to berwick upon tweed as there was so little to do, where we usually go on loads of day trips.0

We stayed near Berwick for a week last October and loved it, although we did have a car. I recommend walking the ramparts in Berwick and visiting the little local Art Gallery which is free. We walked all the coastal path from Berwick to Cockburnspath and passed lots of lovely beaches and often never meeting another soul. It was great. You could get the train to Newcastle like we did as we'd never visited the city before. The Art museum by the river was free and a great place to visit with children. Go see the river and the bridges. There is a childrens storytelling centre that I think would be a good place to visit and there are lots of independent cinemas in the city too. the local bus service isn't bad. You could go visit St Abbs Head for a lovely walk and dramatic seas and birds. There is a cafe or you could take a picnic. Or get the bus the other way and visit Seahouses and take a boat trip from there to the Farne Islands.Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

if you get a reasonable day get the bus to eyemouth, its only a small place but if you go to the new harbour you can buy fish and feed the seals, my kids love it. there are a couple of videos on youtube of people feeding them x0

Thanks for the suggestions. Thanks rochja and medsdemon, some good ideas there, the seals sound amazing. My kids would love that. I don't want to go to Edinburgh as we live in Glasgow so can get there any time but Newcastle could be worth a visit.
I think we're still going to book it anyway even though there's not much to do as mainly we're booking hoping to get some dry weather so we can explore the open area so won't need much in the way of attractions, but its good to have a couple of ideas just in case we end up with torrential rain.0
