Product priced incorrectly

My wife bought some curtains online which were priced at £80 each. When the curtains arrived, the original price ticket of £80 had been covered with a new price of £70. When she queried it, my wife was told it was a mistake, the correct price of the item is £80.00 as this is the price it is advertised at the point of order and in their Directories.
The two reasons given for the difference in price were, one that the it is a misprint on the label or two that it is stock from their previous season being carried forward.
As the curtains were priced up as £70, can we insist that this is what we should be charged?

Nope, sorry. The curtains were sold at the advertised price.
If they came labelled up at £1000 would you be here asking if you should insist they take the difference?0 -
You can't insist, but you can return them for a full refund f you wish under DSR's
When you mention this to companies some do tend to realise they are better off just refunding the difference...asking can't hurt..0 -
Also worth noting if returning them under DSRs you may be liable for return postage.0

If it was a mistake and you return under DSR you may end up with no curtains as the company are still selling the product at £80. The threatening to return under DSR only really works if they have reduced the item after you have ordered so you can return and reorder again at the cheaper price.
If you return these curtains then you can only reorder them at £80(not £70) so the company may prefer to have the items back to sell to a different customer at £80 each as opposed to just giving you £20.
Therefore the question is do you want these curtains or not? If you're not that bothered send them back. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Think about it - how could a price tag on an item you cannot see be in any way binding?
The common sense approach is probably the best one to take here. As an online seller I'm fed up of customers thinking they can have willy-nilly discounts and reductions for non-existent reasons.0
