Hi
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I'm sure you'd know as families keep lots of pix! And it is money saving!
I want to create a sort of scrap book photo album of my holiday pix, not all fancy with all coloured paper stuck, just pictures with notes and stuff..
Anyway I am trying to work out what album to buy that the hold the most pictures for the least amount of money!
Usually I use a standard self adhesive album but I've heard of scrap booking albums, but can only find them on the web so can't see them properly so don't know the difference?
Can someone enlighten me?
Bex

old skool scrap books are large books made with thin plain cardboard pages, used to tape/stick whatever in!
probably get at Rymans, WHSmith, similar stationery shops?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
A scrapbooking album is basically a load of plastic insert wallets which would generally be filled with scrapbooking card which you can glue photos etc onto.
I love scrapbooking but formal scrapbook albums can be expensive although they are available on ebay etc. Also, while I love my hobby I don't find it particularly cheap (or moneysaving) because you find you need a lot of bits a pieces to make the pages really fancy. Also you generally would only put a couple of photos on each page so not what you are looking for.
It sounds like you just need a basic book to glue your photos directly onto the page - these are available in retailers such as Rymans, Wilkinsons etc. Or you could go for the basic photo album which hold a lot of photos and aren't too expensive.Leo James arrived 7 days late on 26th August 2011 by emergency CS :j Such a cheeky chappy now :T0 -
A scrap booking album isn't (usually) self adhesive. They're usually 12" x 12" in size and made of acid free paper (to protect photos losing colours and quality). There are lots and lots of different types, so you might want to pop to a craft store to have a look at the selection. A lot of these albums also have a thin sheet between each page (feels a bit like tissue paper) to protect the photos.
I always use acid free adhesive tape to put my pics in albums, and I also use acid free pens when writing in them. This helps towards protecting the pics from fading and other damage normal pens and glues can cause.
Scrap booking is great fun, but be warned - it can become quite adictive0 -
Hi, Scrapbooking is my hobby -Scrapaholic -I'm addicted ! The advantage to getting proper scrapbook albums + using acid free papers etc is that they are meant to be preserved for many years . If this is something you want then it might be worth the outlay . You could have a look online at others scrapbook pages to see if this is what you want to do . Have fun .0

My preference is these from WHSmiths but I only purchase when they are half price like they are now: http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=33335094 These albums I've been using over 10 years, they are strong and the plastic goes over most things. Like you I do albums but not just with photo's, sometimes things I've collected on holiday like tickets and programmes, etc.0

A scrapbook is different from a photo album in that it doesnt have to contain photos! as scrapaholic will tell you - you can make up your own album from acid and lignum free card and you then embellish it yourself.
most scrap book makers do use photos - but you can also include ephemera such as train or bus tickets - party invitations, scraps of material from a treasured dress - anything which evokes the memories of the page you are makeing about something which is important to you.
I bought my twin neices a scrapbook kit for xmas - as they have made several and love the hobby - it was from Smyths, the toystore and contains an album, some novelty stickers, papers, letter embellishments and loads more, cost around £15 which is very reasonable for what it contained. Smyths is online so you could have a look and see if it would be suitable for you.0 -
Thanks for all the replies!
I've got a self adhesive album from smiths.. and by the sound of it that's probably my cheapest option, but will see when I get all my photos back and start trying to lay them out.. might just get a big scrap book my problem was trying to work out how to protect the photos and stuff it I was just sticking them down.
I have lots of photos and lots of other bits to stick in my album but don't want fancy stuff like pretty coloured paper..
I live in deepest darkest wales where we have no shops that I can find that sell scrap booking stuff so have never seen it!0 -
Bexm - have a look at www.createandcraft.tv and put scrapbooking in the search engine. all these products are available online. The postage is, I believe, capped at £6.99 so it works out far cheaper even for me (I live in the South Wales valleys about 15 miles from the two nearest cities with hobbies/craft stores), than buying in person!
good luck and I hope you enjoy your new hobby!0
