credit card PPI defaults

hi
i claimed for PPI against my goldfish credit card. I ran into trouble with my cards and have since been on a repayment schedule.
today they wrote and offered me £290 as compensation and have asked for my bank details so they can pay it into my account.
My question is would they not just pay if off the balance that i still owe on the card?
Must admitt the cash would come in handy, but equally helps to reduce my debt.

You could just pay this off the card when you recieve it anyway.
Are they sending you a cheque or paying it to the card then raising a cheque?,either way you could just pay it them back.0
