Interesting situation

In the block of flats I live in you have to have a security tag to get in and out of the building or use an intercom system to call the flat you are visiting and be let in that way.

Last week there was a knock on my door. Some one from a charity had managed to get in. Normally im happy to help I was just about to give my son his night time bottle so I asked if they could come back.

From there on things got a bit weird she said they couldnt come back as they werent coming back after that night and I had to donate now.

She then came into the flat (un-invited) and started explaining what they do.

I gave her my details as I said I dont mind giving to charity though im a bit miffed as to how she got in etc.

Next day when I came home from work I noticed there was a note from site management advising the matter had been reported to the police and we should do the same if they come back again?

Can the police do anything? have I been scammed?

    have I been scammed?
Which charity was it? What details did you hand over? Why don't you have a chain on your door?

The chain on the door is a bit moot considering the event has already happened.

I believe the charity they said they were from was action for the blind however cant confirm if they were real or imposters.
  • There are many red flags here and I can't understand why you gave your details. Did you sign up for a direct debit? You can cancel it if you did.

Legitimate charities do house to house fundraising, but even if they are legitimate there is no reason to feel that you owe them anything.
