logging into bt openzone/bt fon

my bt broadband home hub keeps losing connection, and bt are looking into it at long last.

i've read on bt's site that as a broadband user, i can access their bt openzone hotspots for free?

how do i do this? when i go onto list available networks, i click on bt openzone.. it then gives me a homepage with bt broadband, bt openzone and bt fon listed. i've tried all 3 with the username and password i set my bt broadband up with but none work?

i've got a huge assignment i need to email this weekend and starting to panic my internet hub wont be working!!

It's a great service that I use all the time when I'm away from home.

Last week while in a hotel in central London for work I had 4 or 5 Openzone and Fon networks to choose from.

All free compared to the pay service offered by the hotel.

Depending on how long you've been a BT customer you might already be a member. It used to be that you had to opt in to BT Fon but it was changed in 2009.

If you got your BT broadband after early 2009 then you will automatically be a member and your sign in details will have been emailed to you.

You can check by connecting to your Home Hub via http://bthomehub.home

Then click on Services on the left hand side then click on FON if you are a member you'll see a green tick and a You are a member message.

I log into Fon using my xxx@btinternet.com username and password, not the same ones as you would use to log in to the router.

Not a BT broadband user so not an expert but aren't all three BT services you see likely to be your own router, the one you are having problems with?

same problem, BT seems to have included 3 signals in new Home Hubs and if the Fon signal is better than 'your' signal some devices automatically 'find' the best signal and then the pc disconnects, issue extensively discussed in phone forums, some advise turning it off. apparently you do it by going to bt fon and logging in with your homehub email address and password, then finding the section and turning it off. Have done this recently myself and connection is much better (except when it tries occasionally to connect with neighbour's bt fon). Others, I note have failed to do it by the btfon route and have done it via the bt home hub call centre.
