As a matter of interest the central heating only comes on days like today when it is cold.
20 minutes in the morning before the chikdren wake up for school.
In the evening the gas fire heats the front and dining room.
20 minutes before they retire to bed the central heating is on for 1 hour.
The thermostat is set at 18*CValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I'm really surprised that someone needs to ask this question actually. As soon as it gets dark the curtains should be closed to help keep the heat in.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Keeping the doors to individual rooms shut is also a good idea. Heating calculations are normally done separately for each room and leaving the doors open will partially negate these calculations and create movements of air(draughts) between the rooms. I have found that keeping doors shut can make a considerable difference to comfort levels.when it is really cold outside.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

I must say that I have always wondered the same question as the OP. Thick curtains prevent the heat getting through them, so that the heat goes out of the window rather than into the room. There is a certain logic to that.0 -

Now this I find interesting. I have no doors downstairs so can't comment, but if the bedroom doors are closed those rooms are definitely cooler than if the doors are left open.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

......... I have vertical blinds fitted to all windows and they are in closed position..................
I have vertical blinds which cover all of the glass area. The blind material allows sufficent light in when closed and at night no one can see in. My curtains are of light material. When i use the heating the house warms up quickly.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way
