Letter from DWP saying owe them Is from 1992

Help, have just received a letter from DWP saying I owe them money, and threatening me with court. Letter said I had previously been contacted which I haven't. I rang them and they said it was an overpayment of Income Support from 1992.
Can they do this 20yrs later as I don't even now if I owe them the money ?
I do not work as im a full time mum but get child tax credits and child benefit. My husband works full time but didn't even know him in 1992.

Ask for the full copy of your IS file.
Separately, ask for a reason why this overpayment occurred, and when you were allegedly notified.0 -
Were you on IS in 1992 and, if so, were you actually eligible for it?0

they cant take you to court for a 20 year old debt(if indeed you owe it)however they can take it from existing or future benefits,how much is it?0
