Travel Republic mis-selling holidays

Options
Hello, just a quick post regarding a very recent experience with the above.

Booked a hotel on line with TR based on the reviews they held on on their own website about this All inclusive Hotel. Got to the resort and the Hotel had been renamed much to our suprise.

The Hotel was a mitten and food was unedible . Whilst abroad we googled the Hotel to research some reviews which were all recent claiming the hotel was a hovel and to not go there. To late the cry:o

Upon our return and despite complaining it took over a month before the name change was acknowledged by TR and they now advertise it correctly.

Had we known the real name of the Hotel we could have reviewed it and been more informed prior to booking, naturally we would not have booked this hotel. TR are now fobbing us off and saying that they are only the agent and it is Med hotels with whom the complaint lies...........Anyone had a similar experience with Travel Republic?????

Had the hotel actually changed ownership, or just changed it's name.

In the first instance, if you used Travel Republic as an agent and booked (what you thought was) a hotel with chain A, but instead Travel Republic booked it with chain B, it seems they have clearly not done what you asked. If you booked with a hotel with chain A, and in fact Travel Republic booked with chain A even if the hotel name was different, you may have less of a case.

I guess it comes down to what did the agent (Travel Republic) advertise versus what you got, and was that mis-advertisement down to Travel Republic or the hotel? This will need to be factual items, eg you booked a 3* and it's now a 2*, or advertised parts of the AI weren't available. Just saying the hotel wasn't as good as you'd hoped or the food wasn't up to standard may not be enough.

Check and see if they have a governing body/are part of an association like ABTA and whether that association deals with complaints/has a code of conduct etc.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • Thanks for the replies.

No in nutshell the Hotel we thought we booked was based on the reviews and feedback on TR website. As advertised on TR website we booked the Hotel Loyal as mentioned based on reviews for that Hotel name. We travelled and found that the Hotel was called the Hera Park. It was really terrible, we had to eat out, even the drink was not fit for consumption.

My point being it was advertised incorrectly, had we known it was the Hera Park we would have reviewed it and made an informed decision based on the reviews. How could we review a hotel when it was incorrectly advertised.

That's like selling a Ford focus as a good runner, you turn for a test drive its still a ford focus but with a Mondeo badge on and has engine problems.

The advert was misleading and incorrect. Even two months after returning and despite telling them it was incorrectly advertised they continued to display it as the wrong hotel. when they acknowledged the complaint they TR said it was MED hotels fault for not advising TR of the name change. Hope that makes sense.

Contact Consumer Direct and ask for advice. I managed to get my deposit back, from what you have posted I think you are in line for some compensation.

    Link below for threads that I have posted my problem, I hope it helps;

  • Cheers for this. I actually received a response today apologising for the experience I had encountered, I also received the offer of 30 euro's by way of an apology from Med Hotels, nothing from TR.

I declined and advised that I have now forwarded this to ABTA who are to tackle Travel Republic. Hopefully they will resolve this or should I have gone to the Consumer Services first?

The funny side of this despite sending " I have lost count" many emails, Travel Republic still fail to answer the simple question regarding mis-selling the holiday due to wrongful advertising on their website.

I do however, get a response regarding food and that it caters for the majority and my pallette may be sensitive to foreign cuisine etc. For the love of god I am from God's country "Newcastle" we Geordie's eat "owt" pie and peas, peas pud and ham, kebabs, even cold hot dogs at the match, but not the slop served at the Hera Park, Side turkey.............:rotfl:

Please do not go there, review it on Trip advisor and.......I know "Lets have a poll" Please review the following and tell me would you book this Hotel having read this?

If anyone wants to see the response, let me know and I will post it up. Its fantastic !!
