Hi, me and my partner are looking to go to Las Vegas in October for a week and want the best price possible. Any suggestions on who to book with for a good deal?

Thanks

I go to LV a few times a year and I'm always amazed at how much people pay.
You have to book your flight separately from your hotel.
To get bargain rates at good hotels you should subscribe to the newsgroup alt.vacation.lasvegas. You will be astounded at the super rates and hints from locals and holiday makers alike. It makes compulsive reading.

  • Thanks Margaret. Can you tell me what the link to alt.vacation is?

Hehehehe! You're definitely in the wrong place!
You will find it in the usenet newsgroups.
I'm off first thing in the morning for the weekend but when I come back on Sunday I'll find a super link for you. You cannot go wrong! Just hold on for a couple of days.

Details as to When, where from, budget and what you want from Vegas would be helpful.

Delta Airlines have some of the cheapest Scheduled flights, though they only go from LGW.

Hotel prices in Vegas vary enormously. Friday and Saturday night is usually more expensive and if there's a major convention in town (there are always conventions) then rooms become very expensive.

    It's usually best to:-

1 Book a CANCELLABLE hotel room for your dates.

2 Wait until about 3\4 DAYS before you're due to go and see what's on offer.

3 Sign up to the major hotels email notification and they'll send you info on cheap rates and packages.

I'm sure Margaret will help more.

I can VERY highly recommend 2 hotels for brilliant value in Las Vegas. I did months of research and was really pleased.

    1. The Flamingo - Best value for location
    See: http://www.caesars.com/Flamingo/LasVegas

It's right in the centre of the strip opposite Ceasers Palace & The Belagio fountains, and a couple of doors away from The Paris.

With most strip hotels you have to walk miles from your room to the actual strip. Whereas the front of the Flamingo is right on the actual strip. You'll be really thankful for the location!

The pools and gardens at the back of the Flamingo are STUNNING, complete with penguins, and they have a fantastic BBQ by the pool.

    2. The Orleans - brilliant value for money
    http://www.orleanscasino.com

The buffet was fantastic, really cheap, and you get free wine with your meal in the evenings.

It is off-strip but is does not really matter because they have a free bus service to the centre of the strip to the Flamingo. There's a bus about every 5 mins, and it only takes 5 mins.

Sign-up for email newsletters from both hotels as they send you offers.

A MUST DO is the helicopter tour which lands into the Grand Canyon for a champagne picnic, and fly over the Hoover Dam. You also fly over the strip on the way back.

They even pick you up and return you to your hotel. About 4 hours in total, and you can sit next to the pilot either on the way, or on return. Best thing I've ever done.

$279 (about £150) This is the one we did: http://www.papillon.com/product_info.php?products_id=47

The forum here is very good, where you can ask locals things.

    I'm here! I couldn't find this thread!!!!!!
Right! You have to download newsgroups. When you do, you subscribe to alt.vacation.las-vegas and you will get TONS of advice there.
There is a fellow who puts on the link to the LA Times every Monday and they have all the latest offers for hotels. He emphasises that you don't have to live in LA to take advantage of the offers. Also you should sign online to as many hotels as possible and you will get offers. You can also ask a question on the newsgroup and you will get lots of helpful advice.
If you want some fun reading but at the same time really good information, you should go to Matt and Stinky's site. They are so very knowledgable about all the hotels, restaurants, shows etc. You can get to them on https://www.cheapovegas.com They have links to restaurant reviews also.
They are the ultimate in cheapness but they also review every hotel right up to the Bellagio.
You will see from all the information that you get that you must steer clear of CircusCircus. People will advise you as to the best type of hotel and where to stay. If it's your first time in LV, you should stay on the Strip, but I like downtown myself. I have stayed many times on the Strip but lately it's been downtown!
    I hope this helps.
If you have any further questions do ask.
    ;)
