Grocery is unlikely to be "fruit and veg", unless they're in tins.

I was just about to say them same! Grocery is all the ambient stuff (tinned/packet foods, heath and beauty products, alcohol etc), fruit and veg are 'produce; :)

Tesco will give you a basic contract of say 6 hours a week but will then ring you at home or on your mobile constantly to get you to come in and work to cover sickness or holidays etc, this is ok but you can never plan your time off or know what you will be earning week to week....

Tesco have banned all overtime due to overspending the labour budget - even distribution is suffering (which is where I work).

I won't be taking early finishes or time off unpaid to help mind you.

The staff discount can help and I must admit at a time when companies are going to the wall, I do feel I have secure employment with Tesco. They aren't going to go to the wall and Tesco have just spent £40m building my workplace.

It is like this with a lot of companies this time of year as they try to hit targets towards the end of the financial year.

I did tell my friend he was mug doing unpaid overtime in return for time off, occasionally is ok but sometimes he does 2-3 hours a night.

As for Mcdonalds routes to management are quite easy apparently, there is a woman clears tables in my local one she was clearing tables when I was a baby so it can't be that bad working there.

Saying that I did a 2 week stint in mcdonalds at 16 I was stuck in drive trough all the time which wasn't pleasant in December.
