I am planning a big holiday and rather than get a loan (for around £4000) I applied for the Barclaycard Platinum card with the very long 0% balance transfer offer. I bank with Barclays and received 'promotional' mail saying I was guaranteed to be accepted.
Got the email today; my application has been approved and I have been given a credit limit of £400.
What?
About a weeks spend for me, is this normal?
I phoned up to say 'really, don't bother' the but call-centre chap didn't understand what I meant. He thought I was asking him what the credit limit was going to be.

keep it and repay each week, they will increase quickDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Possibly, probably not quickly enough for me to pay the balance on my holiday in march on my tesco MasterCard, and then transfer it over though.
Plus paying it off every week is more effort than I was planning to go to.
It's really not much of a 'deal' is it? I see that it is the best balance transfer card according to Martin, but it's kind of pointless if the credit limit is half a weeks salary.:beer:0 -
Have you been applying for other cards recently? If they see other searches on your report they do have a tendency of knocking down your credit limit just in case your desperate for credit. Once you have proven otherwise, they will increase the limit.0

No, nothing. Perfect credit; haven't had a new card or requested anything for about 18 months. That was the Santander Zero card for overseas spending, came with a £5k limit.:beer:0
