Hi,

I've listed a bunch of items for sale as an auction (just had a clear out) and a couple of items have prompted questions about changing them to 'buy it now'. Of the 2, one has no bidders (5 watchers) and the other has 1 bid (2 watchers). I've never had this dilemma before. My questions are:
1. Is it fair/possible to convert an item where a bid has been placed (my instinct says it's not fair!).
2. The item that has no bids has sold for between £5 and £10 more than is being offered over the past month, my instinct is to hold off and see what happens, am I just being greedy? Also as there are no bids am I right in thinking that accepting a buy it now price is ethical?

  • I would be very careful if the items have created interest already they are probably more valuable than you think ,and the person offering to buy it now is probably trying to get the item cheap,do a completed listing search on the item in question and it will gice you a rough idea of how much it has sold for before

Usually when you get asked if they can buy it now, early on in an auction, it is a good sign that the person knows the true value/potential of your item and wants it cheap, as they know it will go higher.

Ideally when you set up the auction you should just let it run it's course.

As for selling it early in an auction, that is entirely upto you, forget ethics, you have listed the item to make money, as everyone else on ebay has.

Or they could simply be going away and want to buy it now.

 I'm not 100% sure, but I think after an item's had a bid, you can't change it anyway...??

But am quite new to the whole ebay thing, so others might know better than me.

As for the ethics of it, i'd let your bidder know your plans and they might put in an offer themselves. But I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

    Good Luck
