First crash...advice!
Nearly made it 5 years without crashing!
Was on my way to work today, going down my road, its a 30mph limit, and I was doing around 20/25mph as it was nearing the end.
I went past a juntion on the left hand side, where a car pulled out as I was going past it, they hit the start of my passengers door, and scraped to the rear wheel roughly.
Not too much damage to my car, door is a bit dented and difficult to open, window also makes a strange sound when being put down. Had a look at their car, and its minimal damage to the offside front bumper.
Swapped details at the side of the road, just checked on askMID and its shown as insured, so not too worried there. It was a company car, so he rang his boss, and he'll give me a ring later.
As far as I can see, they are at fault, they pulled out of a side road when it wasn't clear.
Do I phone my insurance company? I would like to keep my no claims for as long as possible! I'm not too keen on doing it outside of the insurance companies though.
Any advice would be great!

Firstly did you take any photographs or get the details of any witnesses, the other insurance company will attempt to wriggle out, these days you need to be a real Mrs Marples and start getting as much evidence as quickly as you can at the roadside.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. How far away is your next renewal?
It's fairly standard now for the 3rd party insurer to argue fault, even though the blame lies clearly with them.
This might get dragged out, your NCB will get frozen and your renewal will go up accordingly. Your insurance company will almost certainly try to do this for a quick profit.
If you have details of his insurer, you could try calling them and bypassing your own insurance company, but this could leave you without your legal protection if it all goes tits up.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

No photos from the scene sadly, didn't have my phone on me. Got one of my car now though. Link.
No witnesses, at least none that made themselves known. They did have 4/5 people in the car, but 90% sure that they won't be classed as independent witnesses.Strider590 wrote: »How far away is your next renewal?

Insurance is due in just over 9 months. I don't have their insurance details, just got their reg number and phone number and details of the company they worked for. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
Any damage to the sill? A Ford Focus of that age with that much damage could well be written off. How old how many miles?0

what I can tell you is your car is a write off, also it should not be driven until the B post has been examined by a qualified motor engineer (that is not someone on the dole who used to be in the trade"
I would get images of the road as quickly as possible and images of any debris present, if there is any glass from headlights ect, photograph it at the scene, wide showing full street, in a bit more then close up, then bag it up, photograph it been bagged and keep the evidence.
This helps prove the collision took place at the place you state it did.
4/5 people does mean 4/5 witnesses and 4/5 personal injury claims against you to spring up any time in the next 5 years.
I am sorry but you have no choice but to call your insurance as a matter of urgency to mitigate any possibility of these claims arising.
First thing is to abandon what was said by the driver at the roadside and assume they will try to stick the blame upon you, hence looking for any evidence at the site.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It's worth gong back and taking a photo of the junction anyway, to aid the claim.0

have to say this brings back memories of what happened to me. my car was parked ingnition off and i still got hit ina car park! guy gave me his details, was so sorry and guess what! denied it ti the hilt when the insurance claim went through!
i hope it goes well but cover your back just incase, there are'nt that many honest people out there!0 -
Its an easy process when the other party admit liability.
Deal directly with the OPs insurance company. Ring your company up and tell them it is for INFORMATION ONLY.
The other insurance company (if the op admits liability) should contact you and tell you to take it for a quote somewhere.
They will get their quote, send out one of their own engineers to check, instruct the garage to do the work, or if its a write off just pay you out. They (the Insurance company) should sort you a courtesy car, your car goes in, gets mended, you go pick it up and the courtesy car is collected, You have no further involvement. The garage sends the insurance company the bill, insurance company pays the bill.
It really is as simple as that. This has happened to me twice in the last 18 months and it has all been sorted within 2 weeks.
Your no claims bonus is not affected. When you ring your own ins. company ask them if it will affect your premium, some do and some dont, not fair I know but that's life.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Its a 2001 Y reg, around 110k miles.what I can tell you is your car is a write off, also it should not be driven until the B post has been examined by a qualified motor engineer (that is not someone on the dole who used to be in the trade"

Insurance company is contacted, turns out they are insured with the same company, which should help. They are going to phone this person and get their version of what happened, and the person on the phone said I should keep my no claims. It's worth gong back and taking a photo of the junction anyway, to aid the claim.
I'll do that tomorrow when its lighter, will borrow my sisters camera which is a lot better than a phone one.
I didn't see any damage such as broken headlights on their car, just a bit of a scratch on the offside front bumper.
Going to write up a word document with everything included, print screens from Google Maps showing the road etc.
As for the 4/5 passengers, I was under the impression that they couldn't be classed as independent as they knew the driver? And aren't going to say, 'oh yeah, our mate was at fault'.What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
I wouldnt worry too much anyway, if they are damaged at the front and you are damaged at the side, they cant really say that you drove sideways into them. lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
