If u are still sick and caring for your wife after the 28 weeks, you would then need to make a claim for ESA.

When your wife passes, you will stop the joint claim and make a claim as a single person.

You may still be entitled to some tax credits in your own right.

I am so sorry to hear about your wife, and glad that your work are so understanding.

The rules you have been told in relation to 28 weeks apply only to Working Tax Credit. Child tax credit entitlement will continue, although as someone else has noted you will need to make a new single claim when your wife passes away. I do hope that is a long time away.

also, make a DLA claim for your wife under the 'special rules' you would then also be entitled to carers allowance.
  • I was going to say the same as Nannytone

So sorry to hear your story.

Claim DLA under special rules. After 28 weeks your Working Tax Credits (if you get any) will stop but your Child Tax Credits will continue.

My thoughts are with you (I've been fighting Breast Cancer for 4yrs).
