Hi,
Hopefully this is in the right section...

Im after some advice, its regarding a service that in the car servicing booklet says has been done but clearly hasnt...

I bought a car last October (BMW 316ti, 2002 plate, 61,000 miles) which was given a service and MOT from the same place when i bought it.

Service booklet states that it had a oil service and inspection 1 carried out, and so thought no more about it.

Just before christmas a knocking noise could be heard from the centre of the car. I took it to my local garage and turned out to be all the bolts holding in the gearbox were loose which was worrying but is now tight again.

While my local garage was tightening the gearbox up he had a look around the car and said that really the rear disks and pads along with brake cables should be done - which i thought may have been advised on the MOT.

With this niggling at me i was starting to wonder whether what was said to have been done hadnt and just stated so just because i'd bought the car.

So i took it today to have a oil and oil filter change. I got a call from my local mechanic saying that the oil filter was like mush and has had a order a part from BMW as it has perished and clearly not been changed recently, if not years!

I have done just less than 2,000 miles since the service and MOT from the garage.

My question is, how would you go about taking this further with the garage i bought it from, not really use to doing anything like this so just want some advice.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Depends on the part he has ordered! A lot of cars keep the external oil filter housing and the filter is changed. So after 10 years that part is bound to look a little rough. If it's the filter that has gunked up then maybe there is another problem with the engine giving rise to the gunk?
