Reclaiming GST from Canada

I recently returned from spending 2 years in Canada and for the duration of my visit I kept all of my receipts as I heard that you can reclaim the GST when you return home. I was wondering if anybody knew the process for reclaiming this money?

The Visitor Rebate Program (VRP) was cancelled effective April 1, 2007Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

Does that mean that there's no way to reclaim the money because the post before suggests otherwise?0

Does it? I've read it and I can't see that, but maybe I'm missing something.andrewjhowes wrote: »Does that mean that there's no way to reclaim the money because the post before suggests otherwise?Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

The post before says exactly the same thing:
The Visitor Rebate Program (VRP) was cancelled effective April 1, 2007.
Straight cut and paste from it
Anyway, wouldn't you have been a resident rather than a visitor?0 -
Given that 2007 is before 2009/2010 it means you can't. In any case you were a resident and the refund only applied to visitors. Additionally you could only reclaim GST up to a year after the purchase date by which point you had to have left Canada.andrewjhowes wrote: »Does that mean that there's no way to reclaim the money because the post before suggests otherwise?

1.2 Will non-resident consumers who purchase goods in Canada and remove them from the country still be able to get a VRP rebate for the GST/HST they paid on the goods if the tax became payable after March 31, 2007?
No. As of April 1, 2007, non-resident consumers who purchase goods in Canada and remove them from the country cannot receive a VRP rebate for the GST/HST they paid on goods if the tax became payable after March 31, 2007.0
