Saving on BT line rental

I have a BT phone line on "BT Together Option 1".
I don't use it much for calls (got a company mobile),
but need it for my ADSL (there's no cable where I live).
Almost all my phone bull is the £28+VAT line rental.
Is there anyway to save on this? e.g by changing
provider or BT Option plan?

Welcome to the MSE forums halfmanhalfpint.
The lack of response in the 3 or so hours since you posted is because, although there are some companies offering small reductions on the £10.75/month BT minimum charge, it's not considered a wise move to allow one to take over your line because the saving (what may be perceived as the swings) are outweighed by the the probable and possible roundabouts.
For example:
Certain loss of the ability to CPS your calls;
Probable/Possible loss of the ability to use 1899, 18185 etc.;
Higher charges for 084/087 calls;
A charge for Caller Display (as part of BT Privacy, that's an 11p/month 'almost-freebie').Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
The absolute minimum cost for any residential line with Caller ID on it is £26.70 + VAT per quarter.
That is the wholesale price in the market.
The 4.8% BT Retail markup would barely cover most company's banking costs, let alone staffing.

what about bt`s light user scheme

I make about £4 per quarter in calls but with my rebate through this
I pay around £19 in total around a £16 saving.0 -

I'm with post office and it costs me 9.99 a month.
I too have a company mobile so don't use my home phone at all aside from the ADSL part0 -

If Caller Display is required, which is a useful feature then PO charges £1.75 for this, making line rental + Caller Display = £11.74.
With BT Line rental is £11 (£10.75 online billing only) and free Caller Display (subject to 2 calls (11p)) = £11.11 (£10.86).It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
