You don't have to spend a fortune even if you do go to the pub... your real mates will understand and you can go along and just have the odd drink and make it last... you can enjoy yourself without drinking you know...

I've always had part time jobs of some sort (to supplement the full time job). Bar work was always my favourite. Great people, and if the pub is a busy one the time flies by, and you get tips and drinks bought for you.

Where i last worked also did functions, and we got our taxi home paid for if we worked the bar, as it had a late licenese and they wanted to make sure we got home ok. We always used to save our free drinks for function nights and have a few drinks after work. Great night out and all free.

I met some great friends, and a lot of helpful people who knew who to talk to if you were looking for a garage that didn't rip you off when they serviced/MOT'd your car, or various other contacts that often you wouldn't meet as they may not be in your group of friends. The other bonus is that you get to see bands live for free, and if you are into sport (i'm not, but the atmosphere was always good), then you also get to see all the footie/rugby/grand prix.
    What's he building in there???

You could always work 10 - 6 - many pubs have students for the evening shifts but need people during the day and for lunch. They would also train you (if you got the right pub) to become a manager yourself if you wanted that.

I loved my time at the pub, met my ex there. Unfort I buried him three days after xmas 2006 as he'd been ill for some time, but still have friends from those years even though I live further afield now.

Tell your friends you've given up drink for a while.
Two things you can use as a reason

    1) Getting serious about getting fit
    2) Medication/doctors recommendation

Option 1 will require you to do lots of going jogging and healthy eating (also money saving) As an added bonus it'll probably help you find a girl.

Option 2 will require you to be a bit vague about a trip to the doctors, and some "tests".
  • I think the idea of working in the pub is a great one.

I met my boyfriend cos he worked at my favourite pub.

He worked shifts so didn't have to work every night or every Friday night either.

Think about the bigger picture, think about how this could help you break out of the routine you sound stuck in, you'll get some cash, meet new people, still get to have drinks (people may well buy you them too, I know my BF used to get quite a few bought for him).

Don't box yourself in - at 22 the world's your oyster (sorry if that sounds patronising, don't mean it to...).

    Hi,

I'd agree with getting a job in the pub. I know it can seem tempting to just get drunk and spend the time in the pub, but inviting people round, with everyone bringing a bottle/some cans etc. Then you can still socialise, but much more cheaply.

  • Oh and by the way OP, I also fell truly madly & deeply in love with someone else (years before I met BF of now might I add) who was working in a pub collecting glasses...he was just getting cash together to sort his life out.

And then there is the guy I met in Brighton also many moons ago who was also working in a pub/club sorting himself out.....I'd better stop now, people might get the wrong idea! :rotfl:

OP is off-line, do we think he's at the pub? :rotfl:
