Wood Flooring Quote

We have a quote for £3000 to put wood flooring throughout our flat (approx 50 square meters - three rooms and a hallway/corridor). It is engineered oak flooring (ie layers of spruce below and a lacquered hardwood layer on top). We have opted for a clean grade of wood (ie few knots). We live in East London. The price includes fitting, moving the furniture, taking the old carpet out, replacing the skirting boards and laying thresholds and acoustic matting underlay. Fair quote?

£60 a sq m is not bad for hardwood flooring, and an excellent quote for London. BTW why not have knots it adds huge character to a floor IMHO
  • Think it's an ok quote, you can pay £35+ just for the flooring if it's good quality. I agree with Tom Jones, I like knots too, but that's just differant tastes.

If your flat is leasehold have you checked that you're allowed to put in wooden floors? I've been in flats where it was not allowed under the terms of the lease. If you have downstairs neighbours it may cause a problem. In that case it's worth going for the thickest insulation board to minimise noise. I once had an woman living above who replaced carpets with hard floors, suddenly I could hear *everything* from her flat, including phone calls etc, was pretty disturbing. :o

i've been quoted £1400 for just under 20 sq meters (for engineered walnut). that is on an empty floor, no furniture and doesn't include any leveling that may be required

I'm east london /essex so would apprecaite the number of the place you are using if you wouldn't mind PM me pls.

    Thanks
