The battery on the box outside died last year. My control panel indoors seems to have a fault on it. I never use the thing anyway so have turned the whole system off at the mains. Will this be ok or will it go off blaring.

It can't if its switched off at the mains and the batteries are also knackered..

I wasn't sure about the one outside as to whether those type batteries are rechargeable.

if the mains is off and they are, therefore, getting zero volts I'm at a loss to see how they can be recharged. But I could be wrong.

Some bell boxes have a solar panel to charge the internal battery.

If it didn't give you some sort of warning within a short time of being switched off at the mains, it it unlikely to go off blaring in the longer term.

to be sure, take off the external bell box, remove all the electronics and replace the empty box on the wall.
job done.
