Hello all
My Glow worm 60ff ultimate is finally on the blink and is over 16 years old.
I have decided to change it but am having trouble selecting a boiler.
What is the best one available preferably with a 5 year parts and labour guarantee?
Thought perhaps the Aristan Clas 24 HE Regular Conventional Boiler which is £595.
Does anyone know anything about this boiler or have access to the reviews Which? may have for it?
The Gloworm Ultracom seems best but only has a 2 year warranty. Is there any way to extend it?
Thanks again
Chris :j

Are you sure it can't be fixed? It's very efficient already.

You are replacing a 60,000BTU 18kw boiler with a 80,000BTU 24kw boiler...Have you expanded your heating system to require this extra energy. Boilers are most efficient when running at maximum so the smaller the better.

The boiler is not far of 20 years old
80% ish efficient and needs a new fan (£150 for part)
Their are other items the boiler engineer would like to change at the same time. Could work out £300-400 to repair.
Looking at 90% efficient boiler, with 5 year warranty / peace of mind for £720 (24kw) or £690 (18kw). Wasn't sure re boiler power. The manual states lowest setting is 18kw and highest 24kw. Wasn't sure whether than meant the boiler was 24 or 18 kw? The engineer reckoned 18 kw should be enough though said if ever extend etc would be good to have 24kw and he can effectively turn down the power of it. The only change is that the system is now pressured, have a massive 230 ltr water tank and have put in a few new larger radiators
Do I keep sinking money in to an old boiler?
    Thanks again

The glowworm Ultimate 60FF was first manufactured in 2001....It's no more than 10 years old.

It's 80% efficient. That's very good. I would repair it rather than spend £690 plus installation costs for a new boiler.

Manufactured 1993-2002. So had a long run
I have a service receipt from 1996, which suggests an install date of at least 1996
I'm looking at £840 for a new boiler inc installation and about £300 ish to repair. Now is the time things are likely to start going wrong.
    Not sure what to do.
New boiler A rated , current boiler E rated :-)

OK it's not 20 years old though. Ignore the letter of E it's 80% efficient a new condensing boiler would be 90% efficient you won't save a huge amount on your gas bill. What do you currently spend on your gas bill?

£840 on a new boiler, £300 to repair this one....I'd fix it.

About £40 p/m though have heating on a lot now we have had a baby.
Know only looking at £4 saving per month but when repair is half the cost of new one is it worth repairing?
New one will have free repairs for 5 years
How long are boiler parts made for after production ends? Thought it was 10 years which would mean this year. If repair and in 2 years fails again, will the parts be about?

The parts are still in stock for many years after the boiler parts have stopped being manufactured. Have you actually had a quote for £840 to replace the boiler inc installation? That seems extremely cheap. What did the quote include? I still think it's far cheaper over time to fix a boiler "on the blink" wherever possible than replace. Only replace it when it is uneconomical to repair.
