British gas electrical power cut, 2nd time in 6 months

Just bounced back from a power cut, was ussing my iphone to do some important work. Not easy.

Anyway as topic says.

I'm not sure how electricity companies operate. I phoned up british gas, and they forwarded me to edf for some reason, and edf rerouted me to some energy board who told me they were on it.

Am I right in assuming that all the electricity comes from the same source, and these power cuts would happen regardless of what operator I was with?

Electricity suppliers e.g. British Gas do just that, it is "delivered" to you by a DNO (Distribution Network Operator) details of who is your DNO is on your bill, with contact numbers for emergencies and power cuts.

EDF used to be the DNO for the SE, London and East Anglia but sold that part of the business to UK Power Networks some time ago

bummer, i was hoping that a change in electricity supplier will fix that.

Oh well. I guess I will have to invest in some backup power.

If that was the case you would need new cables every time you change supplier. :rotfl:
