Dog Food and feeding

Posted this link up on another thread but a good read. Fortunately neither of my dogs are suffering with their joints at the moment but I've used maybe half these supplements with my previous dog who had hip dysplasia, many work across the board with various joint issues

Take a look at salmon oil, you can buy it in bottles aimed at pets or in capsules in human health shops. I feed it to my two on a near daily basis. I would be reluctant to feed tinned fish daily, it's not recommended in humans due to the possible contaminants in fish/sea food, e.g. mercury - also sunflower oil isn't one of the best oils.0

Re the joint sticks - my dog has a leg problem in that if he runs at full stretch he gets really stiff, i was giving him joint aid until i had a chat with a very knowledgeable member of staff in Pets Corner who recommended Symply dry food (the Senior version) - I bought a bag, took him off the joint aid and started him on the symply and the difference was amazing!! Its got the gluacosamine etc in it.
Secondly when looking at ingredient also make sure you take note of the copper content - this is something that i never took any notice of until recently - my dog was diagnosed with liver disease/hepatitis before xmas - i used to feed them Wainwrights dry food in the morning & wainwrights wet food at night which they loved - i've now disposed of all the wainwrights food - the copper content was one of the highest - the lowest i found (apart from prescription diets) was JWB. I was also advised to give him Burns as opposed to the prescription diet - I looked at the contents - no thank you. As i said i'm no expert far from it but just wanted to add these points.

RE: Copper
If you read this:
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=copper+content+of+dog+food&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CFsQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fvdi.sagepub.com%2Fcontent%2F12%2F2%2F101.full.pdf&ei=XjYTT9a8OdT28QO8hajoAw&usg=AFQjCNGnLyD3XmBuXtx1xP5rdhof15aT3g
And admittedly it's heavy going, it concludes that:
"The one conclusion that seems obvious is that commercial dog food alone is not sufficient to produce an elevated hepatic copper concentration and cause liver disease in dogs."0 -
If you look up Propolis this helps the liver to regenerate.

Thank you - he's on Milk Thistle at the moment (recommended by the vet and read excellent reviews on it), his gall bladder is enlarged (but not as enlarged as it was 4 weeks ago) and his gall bladder wall was enlarged and thickened by that is almost back to normal nowA home is not a home ..... without a dog0 -

What is the best place to look at prices for skinners?
You'll probably find you won't actually need to feed as much as they say on the bag.£19.99 on Amazon at the moment with free delivery.
Try Medicanimal & the other "usual" suspects for online - I got 2 x 15kg for £36 delivered from there not that long ago (£19.10 just now) ...... it can vary quite a bit so I used to keep an eye out & get when I found a good offer.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

Salmon & Rice is quite a lot more expensive than the duck!
However, just found it for £23.44 on Vet UK
