Long Weekend-Which European Town/City..?

  • Krakow: History, lovely buildings, easy to get to centre from airport, lovely cafes/restaurants and cheap (still use the zloty)
Tallin: beautiful old town, plenty to see, nice food.
    Normal people worry me.

Krakow or Venice would be my choice.

Would have agreed, till I went to Florence, which managed to steal my heart away from Venice. I didn't think that'd be possible, turns out I'm just fickle...

    Few suggestions from me -

Reykjavik - Something totally different. Visit geysers, waterfalls, get a boat out in the sea, go to the blue lagoon, great nightlife. Would depend on time of year though potentially

Brussels - Really quick and easy to get to. Lots of museums. Lots of pubs. Easy to nip on a train somewhere quickly such as Bruges or Gent for the day

Florence as has been said lovely city. Same goes for Rome, with huge amount of attractions

Amsterdam - Again lovely city. Lots museums, galleries, take a boat ride down the canals, loads of bars and restaurants etc

Berlin - Vibrant city. Huge amount of history. Again very lively

Hmm, I'm sort of wishing I hadn't started reading this thread, my own list of cities to visit (which was never short) has just got even longer...

Thanks blindman,,excluded Barclenoa as have been several times. Also the Dam..both great places to visit. I did have Berlin as a possible.

If you like Barcelona then try Lisbon. It has a similar feel but is smaller, (much) cheaper and has fewer pickpockets. It's also easy to get along the coast to explore some of the nearby resorts such as Cascais and Estoril (loads of good quality and cheap seafood) or up into the mountains to Sintra.

The only downside is that it's fairly hilly so not ideal if you mobility problems.
