I just wondered if I managed to get a refund is this harmful for a small retailer or do they recoup the cost from the manufacturer?

Bless you for being the kind of person who worries about small retailers! It's so refreshing in this day & age.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • Most will be entitled to return them but depending on what price they are paying for them it may not be worth their effort to do so.

Many moons ago I worked for a catalog company that did a range of budget furniture. For anyone complaining the item was faulty or damaged outside of mainland england/ south wales and south scotland the staff instructions were to discount it as much as necessary to get the customer to accept it. It was more expensive for us to collect the item than the price we had paid for it and so cheaper to give it away (given it couldnt be resold)

Ive seen some places putting low value faulty returns to some interesting uses :)
