Hi everyone. Hoping someone with some knowledge can help me as I'm not good with this sort of thing.

I left my car outside my parents house and today noticed that it looks like someone has bumped the car whilst reversing possibly, my dad has had a look and doesn't look like anyone on the street has done it.

No one has owned up anyway :(

Has left a dent on the passenger door along with some nasty scratches, some could possibly be t cut. Is there any point in me taking it to a local repair shop to see if they can do it?

Its a fairly new mini cooper in chili red. I can see that you can buy the paint for it, shall I just touch it up myself?

Many Thanks in advance

GOD NO. It'll look like a dogs dinner and stand out like a sore thumb if you try to do it yourself and its likely to end up rusting through. Needs to go to a body shop and be done properly.

Report it to the police, unlikely they will find the culprit but you it will help you if you decide to use insurance to cover the repair costs.

As above, if it was an old banger then diy would be fine but on a newish car you really need to get it repaired properly. Not only will a poor repair significantly reduce the cars value it will also affect any paint/corrosion warranty. The same bodyshop can probably sort the dent and the paintwork, though the worst case is the dent won't pop out and a new door will be required. Provided the paint isn't too bad then it can probably be repaired with the SMART technique which is less work and would cost a lot less than a full respray.
  • Unless there is real chance of the culprit being apprehended i wouldn't report it, or inform the insurer, they might just increase your premium next year.

As above do not attempt the repair yourself if its anything more than a polish job.

This is just the sort of time to find recommendations for that handy little one man and his dog bodyshop who won't rip you off.

Thanks for the advice guys, the dent is a "crease" rather than like a door dent, and the scratches are quite bad, there's a local repair shop called dent magic, might try these, don't fancy taking it to a specialist as the costs are so high. Doubt anyone will own up to it, pretty sad if it is someone that lives on my street :(
