Barclaycard "returned" my Direct Debit - then charged me interest!

Watch out.
Balance under a pound? Minimum DD set up?
Barclaycard will take the DD then return it. You then get lumbered with interest on all transactions on your next statement as you haven't "paid".
Buried in their site is a note saying "payments under £1 cannot be made".
This is ridiculous and just a sleazy way of making interest from people who pay off each month.
I intend to complain. Am I alone, has this happened to anyone else?

So it does say payments under a pound cannot be made?0

Yes, but only buried in the depths of their help system, nowhere on the account page or DD summary box.
I'd like to know when they introduced that and how they notified people. I'm sure I'd have noticed if it was in their DD Ts&Cs. I'm not convinced it is fair or legal though...
And it seems that the payments can be made (mine was) but that Barclaycard then return them.
They are in effect refusing payment and charging me for the priviledge.0 -
This sounds very unfair. Can you post a link to that, please? I've been searching mybarclaycard and can't find a reference. Thanks.Yes, but only buried in the depths of their help system, nowhere on the account page or DD summary box.Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

This query is interesting in light of this thread, YB.YorkshireBoy wrote: »Please could you provide a link to the information (might have to 'break' it as a new poster though).

As far as I was (and still am) aware, there's no minimum value set by the industry. Why would there be?...it's fully automatic.Fruit_and_Nut_Case wrote: »This query is interesting in light of this thread, YB.
So it'll be interesting to see what the OP comes back with.0 -
I've rang Barclaycard Premier customer services and theyve said pretty much the same thing, More than likely the OP would have had insificient funds in their account.YorkshireBoy wrote: »As far as I was (and still am) aware, there's no minimum value set by the industry. The details about payments less than a pound are in the section on payments
ask. barclaycard .co.uk/help/account/2_pay_bill/howto
though this page is about payment generally and may only apply to making a web payment from BC's site. BC do seem very vague about things...
Re OP's commernt about possibly being overdrawn, on 13th Dec when my BC statement shows £0.59 coming in and then going back out as a refund again, I had over £3k in my bank account. My bank statement shows no sign of a DD. Looks like a BC error.0 -
As I said earlier, just break the link, ie...The details about payments less than a pound are in the section on payments (I can't post a link).
http://www. barclaycard .co.uk
And then someone (with more posts) will re-assemble it, ie...

This is getting interesting.
The DD I have with my bank for BC is dated 24th Dec 11, 11 days after the payment was due. My bank says that BC must have cancelled the original one, as they cannot see the "old" one which would be the case if I or my bank had cancelled it.
So BC cancelled and reinstated the DD - but too late for the payment.
I await what they say with interest.0
