Repair bathroom window rot?

The lower transom of the opening light of the window has got a bit of rot, presumably from water condensing on the glass and then draining down onto the wood and the wood not being sealed.
It is only about 10mm wide, is there a simple repair that i can do of some sort?
Any suggestions? TIA.

cut out the rotten/wet bit with a sharp chisel.
then fill with a good wood filler such as cuprinol. sand to shape and paint.Get some gorm.0 -

Any repair especially 2 pack fillers etc should be considered as a short term fix and not a long term solution.
If you do decide to fill it remember to prime all the timber and allow primer to fully dry before filling or it will rot sooner rather than later.0 -
What about windowcare leveller? Horrible stuff I admit, but the boffins seem to think its permanent0

TBH Oz I've never heard of it... I no longer repair windows as IMO its uneconomical unless its repairs like replacing glazing beads etc.
Ive replaced many windows where people have patched them up with 2 pack filler and it always rots around the filler, maybe we should make the entire window out of filler..:D
Is it resin based? if so I have seen it done on Oak timber framed houes..
The problem I see with any fillers etc is its the area around the filler that then rots soon after.Im not a fan of splice repairs either as your introducing another joint and each piece of timber will shrink/expand at different rates, paint cracks then rots.0 -
I've repaired frames times and have been routing then hit something solid, bingo it's the old window care. As you say in 300 years time there will be a whole window out of resin. Im not a fan, but it comes in handy for the old splice joint when your doing a new front door for someone and they want a cheap fix (to the jamb).
I once did a straight 4x2 pse joint with it, using the primer and put it over two buckets and stood on it! Even shifted my weight about and it was fine. Took it off and tapped it hard on the ground and the joint shattered straight through. Must be something to do with vibration frequency or something. Have a video on and old phone somewhere.0 -
Most of my work is replacing windows,Doors,Staircases, kitchens etc and a lot of Listed Buildings , I'm not sure how the Listed Building people view resin. Our Local Listed Building Officer is hot on repairing now but the last one allowed replacing as long as the detailing was right....
One of my next jobs is to make 2 large Victorian Glasshouses out of Western Red Cedar so I don't miss repairing work, I had a regular habit of getting a nice sharp edge on my chisels and then hitting a nail or screw...... Nightmare.....0 -
