How to remove washing tablet smell from matress and swivel chair fabric?

I am new to cleaning so please forgive me for my absolute stupidity and suicidal cleaning methods.

I had some stains on my part of my matress and the fabric on my computer swivel chair. Stupidly I got some washing tablet liquids, opened them and immersed them in water. I then dipped a cloth in the water and proceeded to clean my matress and swivel chair with them. The stains have disappeared however the affected area of the mattress now smells of washing tablet. The swivel chair also smells of washing tablet. I rinsed the sivel chair in the shower which seems to have improved it however it is drying yet I can still smell the washing table and carpet cleaner which I applied.

1.Anybody know what exactly has happened, I imagine the washing tablet hasn't been completely rinsed out of the chair or the mattress? Note if I rub a wet cloth on the swivel chair I notice little bits of foam popping up, does that mean the liquid has not been rinsed out and the smell will not go until rinsed out?
2.Should I put the mattress in a shower, do you think it will rinse the smell out?
3.Do you think both if them are acually clean but it will take time for the smell to go?
4. I asked a carpet cleaning company and they said they can try to remove the smell,, is it neccessary to get them and do they have the equipment to clean out the mattress and chair from whatever I have done to it? I believe they said they would remove stains from the mattress, since there are no stains just washing tablet smell, how would they remove that?

Thanks

Try soda crystals around 90p in wilkos it acts as a deodoriser or bicarbonate of soda

  • Try vinegar it will neutralise the soap and remove the smell. the vinegar aroma dissipates and leaves no lingering odour.
    I'm not that way reclined
