Will Tesco Refund on an unopened i-pod?

Options
Hello
Does anyone know whether Tesco will allow a refund on an I-Pod that my husband purchased for me for Christmas? (I already have one....).

He bought it from Tesco Direct early in November, and paid by Credit Card so has proof of purchase on our statement. It is unopened.

Any ideas? My son says that no refunds are allowed, anywhere, on Apple pruducts, but I've not heard this.

TIA

All you can do is ask them. If they say no then simply sell it (e.g. on Ebay) to recoup what you can.

Or is your son angling to get it for himself? ;)

I worry about selling it on e-bay as people may think it's not real, but I will ask at Tesco, thanks - as you say, they can only say no (although I am a bit mad a hubby for buying it in the first place, given that I have a perfectly good one that we listen to every day!)

And my son? No, he bought himself a new one in October ;)

I don't think Tesco will allow it, with it being 2 1/2 months (ish) old.

You have no legal right to return an unwanted gift, except where the store has an advertised returns policy (which, I believe, forms part of the contract of sale). However, you will have to abide by the terms of that. Most require a receipt, and a bank statement will not be accepted (for returning an unwanted item).

And there's no global "no returns" policy for Apple items.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • Would have to agree RE the blanket Apple policy - infact quite the opposite, Apple are normally brilliant at returns; they've got the best customer service I've come across in a long while. They do, however, keep a log of where their products are sold so you might find that being bought from Tesco you'd have issues returning it in an Apple store.

That said, unopened you might not.

As far as Tesco returning it, like the others said, theres no legal requirement for them to do so (there's nothing WRONG with the item) however you might get an exchange out of them. Double check the requirements for Tesco Direct returns though as far as returning in store goes.

    Hi
Just to let you know, hubby and I returned the i-pod to our local Tesco today - no problem at all with returning it, thank goodness.

SA gave us a full refund.

Nice one. Good to hear of good customer service once in a while - they didn't have to do that. :)

Not to be too pedantic, but they did have to accept the return as this was stated on their website since the beginning of November and therefore formed part of the contract of sale.

To help you at this busy time we're extending our normal 28 day returns policy. Any gifts you buy between 1st November and 24th December may be returned until 31st January 2012.

In that case they did. So an even bigger thumbs up to Tesco for having such a reasonable seasonal policy. :)
