Buying a new carpet. Should I used my credit or debit card to pay for it ?

We are looking to buy and get fitted a carpet from a local furnishing shop (It is not one of the big retailers like furniture village and has been around here for many years).

We will probably be spending around £3k for the carpet and to get it fitted.

However, I'm not sure whether to use my credit card or debit card to pay for it. Ideally I would like to pay a portion of the cost via my credit card and the rest on my debit card.

I think that if I pay over £100 on my credit card as a deposit and the rest on my debit card, Section 75 covers me for the whole £3k on my credit card but I am not sure

Can someone please advise me.

I'm just trying to be careful in case the shop suddenly goes out of business either before or after the carpet is fitted.

I assume also that the credit card company would responsible for any warranty cover if the shop stops trading but would be grateful for confirmation.

Many thanks.

Paying just £1.00 on your credit card covers you via 'Section 75' for the whole purchase price.

'Section 75' makes the credit card co joinly responsible for the performance of the contract.
So yes, if the carpet co disappears then cc co will discharge warranty obligations.

Have a read of MSE's Section 75 Refunds article for further detail.
