However, I am concerned that having only a shower would deter potential buyers when we do come to sell. It is a 3 bed semi and, as such, I would expect it to appeal for those with a young family. When our son was small I was adamant that I wanted a bath, rather than a shower but I wonder whether the thinking has changed in recent years?

IBYPardon, a bath tub is not only used to fill it and take a bath, but has many more uses and functions: people wash their woolen jumpers, underwear, pot the plants, change the water of vase with flowers, arrange flowers in the vase, stand the clothes rack in the middle or the rim, my son shaves in it, I rinse light clothes and net curtains etc etc, some use the used bath water as well... and children float rubber ducks

  • We have a very small (less than 2m x 2m) we have this bath http://www.qssupplies.co.uk/bathroom-furniture-shower-taps/8326.htm a separate 760 cmx 760cm shower cubicle and a 1000cm wide toilet/ vanity unit. It looks good and with clever use of white tiles and mirrors, dosen't look small! It can be done.

Havent read any of this post but a bath wins every time. Wouldn't even bother viewing a house with a 'shower room'

your house has to meet your needs - not the needs of future residents! if you need a shower put one in. dont be like my grandfather who at the age of 90 admitted he had not had a good soak in the bath in years as he could no longer get in and out - he had been sitting on the loo strip washing in a sink of water, he did not say anything earlier as he thought it was a sign he would have to leave his home!! he was also worried that removing the bath would devalue his home. if we had known we could have made his life more comfortable.
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"
