I am not sure , who you class as older generation ?

    Maybe me ? ( 51 )

Cheap Houses?, well maybe , but salaries were much lower and mortgage interest rates were higher Agree

Free Uni ? .........yes , but then only the brightest kids when , and then then got useful degrees Agree, it definitely wasn't the norm for the majority.

Good pensions? .......state pension ? Never heard of private pensions when I started work

Low taxes ? What low taxes.

And we are working to pay benefits and pensions to others , just are the next generation will be paying for you ?

I would call the older generation my parents and grandparents

My parents could never afford a house , and their generation were lucky if they were allowed to grammar school , a lot had to leave school to go to work to help support their family ........no going down the pub at the weekend , spending a fortune , having the latest designer clothes etc

Maybe the younger generation expect too much ? , and to be handed everything on a plate

My parents also couldn't have afforded a house. My Dad left school at 14 although he could have done much more.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

.... Among other things, the 'older generation' had to scrimp and save to afford to buy a flat, later a house ....

You mean that as first time buyers they started at the bottom of the 'ladder' and bought something cheaper than the 'average' house ?

The older generation had cheap houses, free university, well paid jobs, good pensions, free dental care, miras, low stamp duty, low council rates, low taxes and good state benefits. Now they want the young (many of whom have to take low paid jobs and/or are saddled with ever rising university debts) to:
    • To buy their houses at fantasy prices.
    • Work like slaves to provide them with health care and pensions in their old age
Whilst consumer goods have become cheap, many of the basic necessities for a civilised life are beyond the reach of younger people.

    ..and after me...

    IT'S JUST NOT FAIR.

If you're lucky some old codger will slip on the ice this morning and you might pick up his house cheap at probate.

Thats the trouble, many want now what their parents have taken years to achieve.

Uni should also just be for the gifted,to many crappy degrees and below average candidates.

You know, swiping at a massive cross-section of people because of their age isn't exactly sensible. Everyone takes a vote for the government we have in (I know not many people would have chosen the situation we have at the moment!). And they make the rules. People just do their best within those rules.

So blaming your own situation on another group - old or young - just isn't constructive. A lot of the people you're targetting would probably do anything they could to make your situation better, were it within their power.

Rather than moaning, you could try to put your energies into making your own situation better. Narrow-mindedness won't help anyone. Use your vote.
