Smart Meters.

because its the law.. the utility companies have to keep records of how often a meter has been read. safety is an obvious reason, dodgy connections etc..0
-
But they do read it. Once a month, like I said.
Ok they may need to check its safety from time to time, but as far as actually reading it is concerned they don't need to send anyone round.0 -
my point isnt how often it should be read but that at some point a man will come and read it.. i agree there would be no need to come and read it every qtr or whatever. but utility companies neglect to tell people they are obliged to check the meter at least once every 2 years..
interestingly the potential for hacking smart meters is a growing concern in the U.S rather than the usual erroneous transfers..0 -
I've been in my house for six years now and I've never had anyone come round to see the meter - and its inside the house before you ask!Jan 2012: CC £2,340.30, 2nd mortgage £22,932, Mortgage £57,5380

The problem with people saying dont allow smart meters to be fitted etc, is that they have no choice in this matter , when push comes to shove.
The meters are the property of the companies and they have a right to change them as they see fit. Obviously the easiest way for them to do this is with customer consent, but a warrant can be obtained to do this.
And at the moment - unless the government does a u-turn - we are all going to have them whether we like them or not.0
