Shower not working

Hi
My electric shower stopped producing hot water a couple of mornings ago. I noticed the RCD had tripped. Having reset this, the red light on the switch comes only but only luke warm water comes out. Eventually, it gets cold.
What should I do. Replace the entire shower unit or just a part. I'm wondering whether the problem is with the thermostat.
I'm not a technical person so any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

for what its worth change the whole lot
make sureyou get the correct kw for the cable though0 -
Thanks
Silly question, I know, but how do I find the kw for the cable?
Should it be on the rcd unit?
Can I do this job myself or should I bring in an electrician/plumber.
Thanks for your help0 -
It should say what the kw is on the shower you've already got, eg 8, 8.5, 9. Just get the same again.
It's not difficult to change, you just need a bit of common sense, but always best to get someone qualified to do it if you're unsure.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

The RCD tripping is a serious problem. It could be the heater element has broken down or there could be something else causing an imbalance to earth fault.
You should call a competant electrician to check it out for you.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -

usually if the cable in the shower is very chunky its prob 10mm if it looks more like abit bigger than the cable in the sockets then its 6mm
i fit showers all the time and even though they say you can fit upto a 9.5kw shower on 6mm dependant on run and how installed i do not fit more than a 7.5kw one on 6mm as ive seen the problems bigger ones can cause
unless your house is faily new or youve had it rewired you will prob only have 6mm
