Well I've put the washing machine on again this morning and the leak is still dripping. However, when I tuned the machine on and went in the downstairs toilet I also noticed a strange hissing noise coming from the toilet. Am started to get a bit worried. Will call the plumber this week but any ideas in the meantime, the hissing lasted no more than ten seconds.

    Thanks guys.

maybe just the noise of the WM filling up, and being transfered along the pipes.

Thank you. I also noticed when I had a bath last night that the downstairs toilet dripped again. Do you think it is condensation still. Thanks so much . Really appreciate it.

Thank you again. It's just that i have been googling hissing noises coming from toilets and lots of websites say it might be a faulty valve. Really appreciate your help.

its possible a faulty valve, but if it was, youd be noticing a constant filling up and overflow.

    ps

No filling overflow at all. Thank you again. Just to clarify it only drips when the washing machine is first turned on and obviously when I had a bath last night. It doesnt seem to do it at any other time.
