Home Cinema 5 Speaker setup (with floorstanders)...stupidly cheap!!

Options
I saw these mentioned by someone on AVForums, I then Googled a bit & saw the offer was listed on HOTUKDeals too (so I'm not claiming the find!), but they're so ludicrously cheap I thought it worth a mention here...

Remember quidco (-6.5%), then there's an extra 1000 points on a £75 spend available too ( http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/18524/1000-extra-boots-advantage-points-o )

By my reckoning, that's about £64.79 *delivered*  (& it's gotta cost them 15 quid to deliver because of the size & weight!) ....Ok, so B&Ws they ain't, but an ideal starter speaker setup or for someone on a tight budget!

Point of note: If you look at those big floorstander speakers, they aren't actually large drivers on the sides (at the bottom) but something called passive radiators...basically a bit of stiff material on a spring to enhance the bass)

Confused how it says will be £139.99 from 1st Feb (unless Boots have a different calendar than the rest of us)

Only if you feed the pc through an amplifier. These are passive speakers

Yeah I agree...but it adds to the basket at the right price, but hey, so long as Boots still think it's January....then that's fine by me!

Sorry for being thick, but what else would I need to make them work via my HD LCD tv?

I'm guessing an amp (what type?) and a lead to connect the amp to the tv (what type?)

    Thanks, in advance.

You get 639 Boots Points with this, plus 1000 bonus points with a code, making it £63.56.

    Additionally:

If you use Greasy Palm, you get 3.5% rebate, making it £60.76

If you use Quidco, you get 6.5% rebate, making it £58.36

  • ellives each one of those speakers need a powered input from a speakers output for speakers, usually done over proper copper speaker wires.

Then with dual stereo/5.1 phono inputs you can plug in your Sky box, dvd player etc or if you have a Sky box/dvd player with coaxial/optical outputs you can have a pure digital connection from your source to your amp.

So long as your amp is a surround amp with digital inputs it'll go with these nicely.

PS: These show up as £139.99 when I add them to my basket.

Thanks for this - much appreciated....can't say I'm sure I understand thou'!

Are you saying I need 5 cables (copper speaker stylie) which connect the five speakers to an amp (which I need to buy) and then I can connect it to my TV (with a lead I need to purchase also)?

By the way, i have the new Virgin cable (ex-NTL) TV Drive (PVR).

In basic terms what spec amp do I need to start searching for?
