Sounds like the thread in the head has stripped
Who has serviced the car, possible claim against them (if they are the only people who has had the spark plugs out)
Do a web search for Helicoil, I would not recommend doing yourself.
Ask round the local independents if they know of a local engineering company local to you that will fit a helicoil in situ. I think last time we had one done they came out to the workshop and charged around £70. They should take all necessary precautions to prevent debris getting in the cylinder0 -
£2.5k for a head? What's it made out of? Gold?
As has been said above, see if you have a local company who will fit a Helicoil. Should cost no more than £100.
Have you tried another spark plug in the offending hole as it may be the plug that's lost its thread, not the head."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

sorry i phone  ford has said that a new head is £950 +vat and it will take 7 hours to fit at £89 an hour plus the fitting kit .the plug thread is fine but wont go in .i would still have to take the head of to helicoil it0

i think i am more upset that a car that is not very old has to have this done0

I'd be looking at who ever touched the spark plugs last.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
You can helicoil a head without removing it (been there, done it) but great care is needed. Most garages won't take the risk of doing it in situ because if they don't clean up 100% then it is a new engine.0

It has nothing to do with age. You can strip the thread of the spark plug hole the very first time they get changed. It is more likely to happen than it used to as they're now changed every 30k-40k instead of every 6k-10k.0
