Odd freezer behaviour

a couple of times recently my fridge freezer has turned itself off.

It's not huge problem - I use it daily, notice when the light is out, and a switch off and on at the wall fixes it. But what causes it? Could it be related to light blulbs blowing? (I do not think they are on the same circuit though)

Any answers welcome!

When you say switch, are you referring to the switch at the plug socket or the fuse box?

What makes you think the fridge-freezer is off? No noise? Does the light work when you open the door?

Off as in no light, no noise, things melt. (Although as a vegetarian who likes really crispy food I don't worry too much about refreeze germs, I'll bake the swines out of anything.)

The switch at the plug socket. A quick off and on again makes it work (light on again, etc)

In the first instance, try another socket with an extension lead if necessary. The socket/switch may be faulty.

A few things to check if you feel competent enough:

If the fridge-freezer plug is a re-wireable type, open it up and make sure the wire connections are all tight.

Switch off the power to that ring circuit and check the wires inside the socket are secure - switching it on and off may be moving the wires to make temporary contact.

Thanks Myser. Feel safe checking the plug (we did that in school physics)

Not so joyous about ring circuit, may get some help in for that!

If you have an extension lead that will stretch, try plugging it in to a socket in another room.

Any fridge / freezer that switches itself off at random is no use to man nor beast.

Do feel free to send me £300 for a new one plus a sparkies fee...
