I've got an iphone 3G:( (I thought it was a 3GS).
Itunes software has moved on & now I can't have a ringtone, just the standard ones that come with the phone - that everyone else has & you never know if its your phone ringing:mad:
I took it into the ishop yesterday - they said it couldnt be updated any further.
Now the phone is fine, I just want a ringtone, so rather than buying a new iphone () the man in the shop said I could create one & drag from itunes to the phone.
I have no idea how to do this & them not getting a sale weren't going to help.
Idiots guide to how I can do this:o

No idea what LMGTFY, but thank you.
This might be a stupid question, but I see Amazon sell music downloads at a better price than itunes.
If I bought some off Amazon I would still be able to do the whole converter thing on them?0 -

I've downloaded 2 albums from Amazon to Itunes, but I can't get them onto my phone.
Is this also because I'm running an old 3 G phone?
I've googled & googled it & I can't see how I can't do it!!!!
Apple are updating their help stuff & I cant access it.0 -

He was right, you can make your own ringtone from any song you have in iTunes.
Chooses the song you want.
Right click and 'Get Info'
Go to the options tab and tick the start and stop time boxes.
A ring tone can only be up to 30seconds long so if you want the intro as your ringtone set the start to 0 and the stop time to 30 seconds. You can choose any 30 second chunk of the song. so start at 10 end at 40 is OK
click Ok then right click and select create AAC version
This will create a copy that is only 30 second long.
Drag the copy, not the original, to the desktop then delete the copy from iTunes
Go to the desktop and the song should be there called something.m4a
Right click and rename the song - change the last 'a' in .m4a to an 'r' so the song becomes something.m4r - important as .m4a = song and .m4r = ringtone
Double click on the song and it should open in iTunes and play - this is how you get the new ringtone into iTunes the easy way.
Now sync your iPhone and you should have your new ringtone. It should be in the Tones folder of iTunes.
Have a go and let us know how you get on.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
One thing that does occur to me is that I think this only works on songs that you've imported from a CD - I'm not sure it will work on song's bought via iTunes because of the copywrite (DRM) protection. I'm not sure and I can't check as I've never bought a song from iTunes, all my stuff comes from my CD collection.
Perhaps someone else can try it and clarify. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Did you see my last post?
Maybe the reason I can't do this is because my phones a 3G?0 -

I've used this site for mine although I don't know if it would work on a 3G as mine is a 4.
