Last quarters bill for gas & elec £1,000!!!!
Options
I've just worked out for u switch what we use in a year =
58410 kwh of gas
12208 of elec day units
3328 of night units
I'm already paying £233 per month and now I'm over £400 in debit!!!
We live in a bg house but there are thermostats on every radiator and all of the rooms we don't use these are turned down and DG everywhere. We have the heating on for 2 hours in a morning and 4 hours at night and for most of the weekend.
Uswitch says I can save £700 per year by moving to N power - however as I'm on powergen at the moment and didn't know which one of their capped price plans I was on and it let me choose don't know. I'm not so sure!
Anbody got any recommendations which swicth company would you recommend or are my meters just bonkers?!
Many thanks for a bit of re assurance.

You are using approx 3 times the national average for gas and approx 5 times the average for electricity. Have you got those figures from your bills with actual(not estimated) meter readings?
I suggest the first thing to do would be to try and reduce consumption as your bills are going to be huge whatever company/tariff you have. What sort of insulation do you have?
The trouble with using any comparison website is that any information you get today will be out of date soon as there are a round of cuts in the pipeline.
For instance the newly announced BG tariff would probably be the cheapest for that quantity of gas, but pretty certainly it won't be after the other companies make thier cuts in price.0 -
taken over a year.
Insulation probably not much at the front of the house as it's Victorian but the back third is a 10 year old extension so will have cavity wall etc and the loft insulation is good.
Nightmare consumption isn't it?
Just read Martin's original article again and he seems to be saying it's not time to switch yet.
Yes time to reduce consumption, jumpers and gloves for everyone doesn't explain the mega electricity bill though!!!!

Hey,
If your with Powergen i'd give their Energy Efficiency line a call.
They will go through everything you have in the house and give you advice as to how to bring your usage down.
The numbers 0500 201 000.
Might be worth a go!0
