Social Housing

In my town I know two people over 70 who have sold their houses and gone into local housing association ( took over the council housing stock) properties. They do not have any disabilities at all. Locally there seem to be plenty of one bedroom flats for the elderly, but not for younger people.0

Unless your parents already live in a very small flat, wouldn't it be simpler for them to sell up and downsize? Also, would they be able to afford to pay the rent in council/HA accommodation?0

Our HA will accept people who sell their own home and move into sheltered accomodation. They do pay the full rent and any other bills associated .. ie Warden on site.0

Easier said than done.
I want to downsize, after 2 years I am still in my 3 bed semi.
And from what I could sell my house for and what I could buy after paying for everything including stamp duty I would have to sell most of my furniture to be able to fit into the downsized house.
And there is no way I would go back to living in a flat and listening to my neighbours shagging every night.
It depends on what you are looking for ..
You could sell your property , put the money in the bank and pay full rent on a Housing Association Propery with a warden on site if you qualify.
If not, the fact that you are in negitave equity is not just your problem ,, there are loads of people in the same boat
(if you are already a social housing tenant they will actually help financially if you want to downsize)0
