Just got my new award for DLA today as old claim is just about to run out and have been given award for 5 years.
is that normal as my other claim that is just about to run out was only for a year.
Have to give credit to DLA as they did it within a month so a big well done to them.

Its daft they they are still giving long and indefinate awards (certainly NOT rewards) for DLA when everyone is getting reassesed for PIP starting from next year and even more so when they have already anounced that 1 in 5 will lose their DLA award in that process.0 -

Not really. Those that are close to retirement age are unlikely to be reassessed for PIP in the short to medium term. Those and the retirees will be the last to be assessed if they are ever. DAL and PIP will run side by side for those people - unless there is a change of circumstances.
By the way, I have heard from a reliable source that current awards, especially for those at or near retirement have been 'dually' assessed over the past few months on both the DLA and PIP intended criteria.
For someone to be given now a 5 year award or an idefinite one, are odds on that they will be at the end of the queue for reassessment.
I would suggest that the poster enjoys the benefit for now and not to expect a PIP assessment for quite a while.
As regards the '1 in 5' losing out. From what I understand it will be those on the low care rate and some on the low rate mobility. In both of those categories, it has always been a bit hit and miss to get them, cooking test - supervision when outdoors.0 -

for people with epilepsy low rate mobility has been the norm for years and 99% of those who claim dla sucessfully get mrc and lrm0 -
I guess it depends, my first DLA award was for a year, on renewal they gave it for 5 years (think there is a site where you can see what awards they give for each condition)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. There's guidance for the various conditions in
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/medical-conditions/a-z-of-medical-conditions/
in the Prognosis and duration sections for each. This'll be what you refer to."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -
A friend of mine just got awarded DLA to run until December 2014. She was told off the record by DLA staff that her award will just be allowed to run its course and that she is "highly unlikely" to be re-assessed for PIP until her DLA expiration date in 2014. Although they bring in PIP in April 2013 I bet that claimants whose awards are due to run out in 2013 or 2014 will just stay on DLA until that current claim expires. When they apply to renew they will have to of course go through the PIP assessment then.0

Then to follow on that comment, those that received an indefinite award recently, are highly unlikely to be reassessed under PIP unless there is a change in circumstances?
Can't see that being the case as very few are going to admit to having a change as they know that they will be assessed as per PIP!
I have High Mobility & Mid Care indefinitely - awarded Jan 2011. I'm almost sure that my needs will not improve!0 -

No, the indefinite awards will eventually be reassessed for PIP. With the awards that are due to run out in the near-ish future anyway then it makes more sense to just let them run through to expiration and then force the claimant into a PIP reassessment when or if they try to renew their claim. It's different with an indefinite award because, unlike one with a looming expiration date, they could just run and run forever if a reassessment is not scheduled.0 -

So with an idefinite award the chances are that I could be reviewed within the next year or so, or in 7 years.
So what happens if I am not reassessed by the time I reach my 65th birthday? I thought that in that case they will not reassess them after that age.
Very confusing. So on the face of it, like most of us, there is every chance of not passing the 'tests' with ATOS despite the care needs and mobility problems still being the same.
Is all the extra money we are now getting because of DLA/AA etc in our Pension Credit claim really worth the trouble?
I'm getting too old, fragile and sick to cope with anymore of these 'tests' as is my wife who gets AA.0
