They'll probably end up with a criminal record, it'll cost you more to sue them (assuming you can if they're under 18) than you're likely to recover.
Sad but realistic illustration of the times we live in. Your insurance won't pay out enough to replace the car, but is unfortunately the best chance of making any financial recovery.

The OP would have been better not to go through the insurance I would have thought (too late now) due to the low value of the car and the fact the op will now see a rise over the next few years of their car insurance.

    Rubbish.

I cancelled a claim almost 2 years after making it. I never cashed the cheque they sent and kept on at them to cancel it. Eventually they got the message and cancelled the claim.
  • I had to contact my insurance, as it needed to be taken away from the pound.

My insurance contacted salvage - and I will receive a check from salvage, which, to be honest, will be about £50 if I am lucky. I am not losing my NCB, as I haven't made a claim. I asked him to repeat that to me (and my father, who was there picking up the pieces, bless him) a number of times.

Getting the car to a garage was no option. The whole barrel had been ripped out.. we tried everything to start it.
  • Another thought - as they are all under 18, can I sue their parents?

Thanks for the info about The Motor Insurance Bureau x

You may, I would seek proper legal advice on that though. Go and see a solicitor most give free half hour consultations and i'm sure they could give you the answer you need in that time.

Let us know if you do, it would be interesting to hear the outcome.

Had a similar problem when toerags nicked my daughters old corsa, took me about an hour to strip the old barrel off and replace with a second hand one and i fitted a cut off switch. Too late if youve scrapped it though.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • Thanks once again for the advice - thankfully, my cousin is a lawyer and she has agreed to do all she can to help. I'm through being upset. Anger has kicked in and I'm gonna nail the little whatnames!!
