Central Heating boiler leak

We have a worcester boiler 24i. Ive notived over the past few weeks that the pressure clock goes right down after its turned off. Ive been checking for leaks all over the house but cannot find anythnig however, just been outside and noticed drips coming from the release pipe.

Generally we set the pressure clock to number 1, when the heating is on it moves up to around 2 1/2. Obviously then there is a release of water from the pipe outside. its not gushing out but a little drip every few seonds.

What can be causing this??

You may have a faulty PRV (Pressure Relief Valve).

You shouldn't be filling the system to the maximum on the gauge. As water heats, it expands. Hence the change in pressure and the reading on the dial increasing when the central heating switches on.

Who can it be faulty when the op has said

The pressure relief is doing its job

Thats what I thought, the gas man said leave the pressure to number 1. as the heating is on it goes up to around 2 or 3 then goes back to 1 when heating is off.

You need to check the pressure in the boilers expansion vessel, as your system pressure should not be getting that high. It has a schrader type valve like on a car, right at the top of the boiler where the flue is. When the system pressure has dropped to zero, check the expansion vessel valve. If any water comes out it's knackered but it may simply need to be repressurised with a pump to about 0.8 Bar. When the pressure is correct, repressurise the system to 1 Bar.

Thanks, we have a service cover with BG so ill give them a ring on Monday.

one other point about central heating.

What does the 'manifold' do? 1 enginer says its blocked but another BG engineer says its fine. All our radiators work fine.
