  • Hey Bramble,

Wanted to post because I know exactly how you are feeling and I want you to know that you're not alone.

I came on here tonight because I've just been tipped over the edge by an omelette!! This was as a result of a desperate bid to try and make a meal out of the rubbish I have in my fridge. It didn't go quite to plan you see, as the first omelette turned into scrambled eggs which I then had to throw away and then the onions I wanted to use in the second one were off. So I actually wasted 3 eggs and 2 onions which wasn't very frugal of me!

Anyway, as much as I am sure you are enjoying (or not...) my omelette story, the reason I say this is because it might seem like obstacles are always being put in your way whether its an accident with an omelette or an unexpected payment that screws your finances up for the month. But you CANT GIVE UP.

You say you are 2k up from last year despite tightening your belt but just imagine what position you would have been in if you hadn't! It might have been 4k or even more!!

Now, your'e proverbial omelette hasn't gone quite to plan, learn from it, take a deep breath, hold your head high and start again with a positive attitude.

    Lots of love PP xxx

  • Sorry Bramble, i've just re-read and you said you thought you had paid 2k off not that you had 2k worth more of debts.

Anyhoo, the same principle stands, I am sure you will have paid more off than you would have done hadn't you decided to change your ways. I hope that makes sense, my brain is frazzled tonight.

    xx

You need to understand what spending has led to debts being bigger than they were last year, that will help you cut down. If the PAYG phone costs more, reduce the amount you use it to what you can afford, I used to have a £50 a month contract and used most of the allowance, I'm now managing on about £5 a month PAYG by only making calls / texts that are really necessary.

I don't see how my spending can have made the debts bigger though. I'm not a DMP (self managed) and have not taken out an more credit, paying off around £143 pcm so how has it increased?! I just don't understand.

My PAYG is only used for emergencies or to contact credit agencies (which is taking all my credit!!! )

If it's not spending, then are your debts still having interest and charges applied, or have you arranged for these to be stopped alongside your payment plan? If interest and charges are still being applied then if these are greater than your payments the debt will have increased.

If this is the case, you should be able to get your creditors to stop, if you fail, then I'm sure using CCCS or payplan they would succeed on your behalf in a DMP.

I have to agree with everyone I feel exactly the same and always feel things will be better when I get to a certain point in time but then they never do !!

I now want it to be next week when my OH gets paid then I want it to be February when I get a small bonus at work, there's no Council Tax to pay, I get a £50 loyalty bonus back from my house insurance, I don't have to pay back a debt to a family member as I paid the last payment yesterday and I've cancelled my Sky package so don't have that to pay either but then when I get there I'll still wish I was somewhere else !!!!!!!!!!

Being a DFW is definitely addictive but I sometimes worry about my sanity, I seem to think of nothing else, morning, noon & night !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not all on DMPs with no interest being added.
Must say i feel more positive today, and OH and I are going to try to clear ALL the debt this year...hopefully it's possible!

  • we all have down days it's just part and parcel of the 'journey' to being DF :) I am on a dmp with cccs and my debt increased last year but that was due to all the charges being added on fr defaulting, and interest & also another bill we had forgotten about (oops)

Have your creditors all stopped interest & charges?? Why don't you head over to the claiming back board and see if you are entitled to claim back ppi or bank charges?

Glad you are feeling better today :)

  • I know how you feel and to be honest, although it seems a long tunnel ahead, you ahve the support of your OH. ;)

I started my journey at the back end of 2010 and have been working really hard on becoming DF and I am now a mere £7000 away from this goal. Its another 13 months to go and it seems like a life time from now BUT I have reduced my DFD by nearly 2 years and that is what I tell myself when I feel like yuo do now.

When ever I have 'one of those' moments/days, I write down £45000 debt 2010 - £7000 debt January 2012. That makes me smile and keep determined to crack the last few thousand pounds. :D
