Will it ever end?

I am really struggling at the moment, I feel like all my hard work trying to make repayments and keep afloat is getting me nowhere. My life feels like it is going to be on hold for ever.

I know it's my own stupid fault for getting into this mess. But will the ever be light at the end of the tunnel??

The length of the tunnel depends on how deep you are in debt. My tunnel is long and dark but I keep heading in the right direction. I use this time in the dark to reflect upon the things I did wrong, the things I didn't realise (until I found this site) which compunded my indebtedness and I realise that the longer I am in my tunnel the less likely I am to make the same mistakes I made before.

It took me a good year to be able to save enough money to be able to pay fo car tax, insurance and breakdown cover in cash rather than on credit. I know it was only about £600 but those were the 3 items that were going on my CC but it never occured to me that I was only paying something like £400 of that off each year! I'm not a stupid person but boy was I dumb on that one! It was only when I found this site and an old CC statement that the penny dropped!

It's a long, hard journey and there will be bad times, hiccups, emergencies that will hinder you but once you wean yourself off credit dependency for living, you'll be able to focus on reducing the debt and feel better for it.

I paid one of my CC's (I don't have a DD set up for that one) 14 days early this past month and it saved me 21p interest. I was so chuffed!!

I find what helps me is that I have paper statements for my debts which I keep next to my pc. It keeps them real and allows me to see how much less in debt I am from 2 months ago or 6 months ago. These little victories are what makes the darkness that little bit less pitch black. It'll be a while before I see the light at the end but I know its there.

There's a light at the end of every tunnel…it’s just that you may have to travel a little further into yours before you start to see it.

We all have a different set of circumstances and challenges, for me it took nearly two years to find a point of stability…in that time I was barely keeping my head above water but I didn’t lose sight of the end goal, and nor must you. ;)

It will get better....and when it does you’ll look back at this moment with a deserved sense of achievement.

Stick with it…it will be worth it in the end - the harder the fight the sweeter the victory

    Loads of luck

Thanks guys. I've just totalled up our debt, and somehow it's more than last year, even though we've not taken out anymore credit and thought we had paid £2k off!! I just feel like giving up to be honest. Why bother scrimping and saving when it's getting us nowhere.

Stick with it because it will get cleared. Can you find any ways at all of paying more off (even tiny amounts?) so that you can see you're making dents - even if they are small?

If you give up things won't improve. Stick with it.

Have you put up a SOA etc before to get advice from people about payments etc?

I know exactly how you feel, big hugs. Are you in the first month or so of really making an effort to clear the debt and spend less etc? It is such a shock to our systems too but I hope this is because things are hitting rock bottom so we won't make any real dents this month but everything is in place for making savings from next month onwards.

Good luck and post an SOA on here if you can, it really helps even if you have done one before :D

haha no i'm into my second year!! So i don't understand how we owe more than last year!

I've put SOAs on here previously, and to be honest, I regret some of the advice i took.....PAYG phone is costing me more to run than my contract ever did! any now due to my bad credit i can't get a contract sim!!

  • You need to understand what spending has led to debts being bigger than they were last year, that will help you cut down. If the PAYG phone costs more, reduce the amount you use it to what you can afford, I used to have a £50 a month contract and used most of the allowance, I'm now managing on about £5 a month PAYG by only making calls / texts that are really necessary.
